Hi! My name is Marissa Smith, the creater of this website. I am currently a senior at York College of Pennsylvania pursuing my bachelor's degree in early elementary education. I am expected to have my Pennsylvania PreK-4 certication in May 2016, which is also the time I will be graduating. Right now, I am student teaching in a 4th grade classroom at Dallastown Area Intermediate School.
Though I am studying in Pennsylvania, I am actually from the small town of South Plainfield in New Jersey. I have lived there my entire life so coming to Pennsylvania was a new adventure for me. I played varsity soccer all four years of high school and was captain my senior year. I also ran track for three years of high school. I continue to run races now, including half marathons. I love to workout and be active! Since I have always been active, I love to mkae my lessons have some kinestic activity within them to get the students out of their seats.
I also love to travel! I have been to over half of the states in the U.S.A and have been out of the country four times. The picture above is from my trip to Ireland this past summer on the Carrick-A-Reed rope bridge. The summer after I graduate college I plan to backpack through Europe for six weeks!
To the right, you will me my "Meet Miss Smith" newsletter I had sent out before I began student teaching so the students and the parents could get to know a little bit more about me. Communicating with parents is an important part of being a teacher. My team and I have created a twitter account where we post pictures of activities we have done with our students so the parents can see what their kids are doing at school. We also post our weekly newsletter with reminders and information for things happening that week. Please feel free to follow us @TeamCourageDAIS.
When it comes to teaching, I am always looking for new ways to teach lessons in order to enhance student learning. I am very big on using technology in my classroom and am well educated with both Apple and Google products. I know that as a teacher I will always be learning new things and improving my lessons so they can be the best they can be. I look forward to a life time of helping kids learn new things but also learning from the kids as well.
